In simple term education is the process of learning and acquiring knowledge regarding different subjects, topics. Learning anything new that helps in increasing knowledge is known as education. Education can be acquired anywhere and can also be used to promote peace and betterment in the world. Education is though the process of getting knowledge but there are even different types of education that an individual gets in a lifetime. Receiving different types of education helps one in getting socially and culturally knowledgeable and helps in becoming socially acceptable. There are notably three different types of education that a person receives during his life. Formal, Informal and Non-formal education.
Formal Education
Formal education is the one that is received properly. Schools, colleges and universities are involved in receiving this education. It is based on different subjects and a proper system is also involved in the acquiring of this education. Detailed study and exams are also a part of formal education which then leads to a person receiving certificates and degrees as well making him qualified. This type is received by paying a certain amount of money monthly, quarterly or yearly.
Informal Education
Informal education is the one that is not particularly received in any specific institute that is designed specifically for receiving education. Informal education is also known as practical adult learning and it is not planned and not received by following any proper learning methods. There are no specific learning hours involved and whatever an individual learns is through their daily experiences. The process of receiving informal education is a lifelong process and exposure to the environment helps in receiving more and more of this education. This type of education is free of cost
Non- formal Education
The third type is also known as self-education and this education is received by an individual on his own. It is a flexible type of education. It is found to be diversified in terms of content and the methods used. It is a very long process and this type of education is acquired from work, home and experience as well. It does involve the learning of different professional skills and the inclusion of certification or degree is found to be optional in it. It is sometimes free and sometimes a fee is paid to achieve it. In addition to all this non-formal education is also time flexible and can be received at the convenience of a person.
